Who we are ...
How it all began …
It all started a long, long time ago in a land called Londonderry. Correction, we were tanked and camping in the bush, Pauly had a flat, Swampy freaked out and Krusty hadn't shown up yet and then one of us had a thought. Something about Local Legends seemed to strike a nerve with our humble group and soon it began to astonish the masses, I mean it spread like wildfire. Our little campfire chat was caching on and soon we were hearing from people we had never even met.
Everyone seemed to have their own local legend, either something that happened to them or something they had heard and on and on it went from themes of the macabre and supernatural to war stories and aboriginal mythology.
That was 2004 and by the end of 2009 we were getting email after email and even manuscripts and requests sent to us from as far afield as Oberon, Rylstone and Brusselton. We wondered if there was any factual basis for these local legends that people were telling us? It mattered little to us because inevitably we all make up our own minds. We are not myth-busters, we don't own the truth, we are just presenters of information. You can draw your own conclusions and dig at your behest. That's what we did and we still debate amongst ourselves what we think is real or not.
Reporting about rare people, places, specimens and events such as cannibals, car collectors, yowies and female bushrangers who can throw knives and ride bareback began to lead to other stories of panthers, gubba’s, lost aircraft and bush poets and they all qualify. They are all Local Legends. As we say at Local Legends, everyone has a story what’s yours?
So how do we separate the history from the mystery? We don’t for we are not sensationalists or exploiters of people and their stories. What we do is listen to what people tell us, collect these yarns and try, wherever possible, to corroborate these legends with actual events and historical data. Sometimes we are successful and manage to uncover increments of historical importance, and sometimes we don’t. We publish everything regardless and let you, the reader, our source, make up your own mind. We merely present these local legends to you warts and all for you to take in.
These tales are important and like your grandma’s favourite recipe, need to be told. For to meet rare people and get rare stories you have to go to the rare places. None of the stories on this site are fiction—some might not be completely true, but none were made up solely for the purpose of entertainment.
Our point of difference is that we cannot function without you, yes, you, the reader, the source, the star, the protagonist and we welcome the good, the bad and the ugly.
With that in mind, please enjoy our site and our range of entertainment and media products and do not hesitate to contact us on the details provided.
